PARTNERSHIP "FOCUS" - A NEW
RESOURCE CENTER FOR
NON-COMMERCIAL ORGANISATION

Those who work in public sector certainly
know such resource centers as CAF, or Interligal, where one can get a qualified
consultation, look through necessary literature, put one's name for a seminar
on a topic interesting for them. Now we have one more resource center.
Non-commercial partnership for supporting of civil initiatives "Focus"
provides non-commercial organisations for social marketing, a field not
much known about.
Social marketing can be defined as the use of tools and means of
marketing as strategic planning, advertising and public relations, marketing
researches for:
- - implementation of socially significant reforms,
- - consolidation of non-commercial organisations,
- - improvement of social policy efficiency.
The idea to adopt commercial marketing methods to specific character
of noncommercial sector was born in the USA 15-20 years ago as a result
of a rise of a number of non-commercial organisations and severe aggravating
of competition between them. In this situation non-commercial organisations
were forced to gain new skills: an ability to define distinctly a place
of the organisation in its own specific market, comprehension of demands
of its clients and donators, an aptitude to spread one's own convictions
and to recruit supporters and so on.
Today all these skills are urgenly needed to the Russian non-commercial
organisations as well. First of all because of rising competition for grants,
volantary donations, social orders. The second reason is somewhat watchful,
guarded attitude of the broad public towards activities of non-commercial
sector. And the last a lack of confidence and skills of carrying on a dialoge
between noncommercial organisations, from the one hand, and state structures
and representatives of business, on the other hand.
To help the Russian NCOs in mastering methods of social marketing,
to assist in improving efficiency of social policy - these are objectives
of the non-commercial partnership "Focus". Highly skilled experts
