WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN Violence agains women affects one's personal and communal aspects in life. Violence against women involves an unequal power relation between men and women in which a majority of the cases society provides men with excuses for this unequal relationship, relationship, illegally abusing their power and strength. Violence does not only involve physical acts against women, but also results in pain or trauma. Violence can also be in the form of psychological harm.

• TYPES OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN:

  1. Domestic Violence (Violence in the family, or intimate partner relationships):

  • The dynamics of domestic violence involves the use of one person (usually men) to use full control over the life of another person.,

  • Physical violence: beating & forms of threats of physical harm.

  • Psychological violence: verbal abuse, threats, humiliation, etc.

  • Economic violence: refusal to allow the woman to go to work or pressure to stop working; complete control over the woman's income.

  • Sexual violence: Any unwanted sexual act. Unwanted sexual acts are a crime in any relationship, including between married couples. Violence against a family member or an intimate partner is a crime, just like any other crime. No one has the right to use their power and strength against another person, in any relationship.

  2. Sexual Violence: Sexual violence is sexual contact against a woman's will.

  • Forced sexual touching

  • Attempted rape

  • Rape

  • Incest (sexual violence in a relative - sister, daughter, etc.)

  • Any sexual activity or statements in the relationship with a minor (up to 14 years old)

  3. Societal Violence:

  • Sexual harassment in the work place or academic setting (sexual attention from the employer or colleague wich is not desired by the women).

  • Trafficking of Women (transport of women by means of diception coercion, with the goal of sexual exploitation).

  • Coercion into prostitution

  • Coercion into prostitution

  Violence against women exists in all cocial groups, independent of income, education, social status, age, nationality, or sexual orientation.

  ALL forms of violence against women or discrimination against women are a crime.

  • right to life

  • right to freedom

  • right to personal invillability

  • right to equal protection under the law

  • right to be free from discrimination of all forms
