What do you know about Russian women’s movement?

What do you know about Russian women’s movement? Does it actually exist? In case it does than what Russian women are doing, what problems they are worried about? Many people who are interested in Russia believe that Russian women do not have any problems – central mass media never mention any of them. But when it happened that government of a developing country ever paid attention to problems and interests of women? Perhaps, a few civilized countries only can boast of paying attention to women’s issues. However, Russian women like women from other countries are consolidating in order to solve their problems together. According to estimation of experts more than 4 thousand women’s non-government organizations are actively working in Russia at present. To learn more about women’s movement in Russia you can visiting the Russian informational portal “Woman and Society” (http://www.owl.ru/english/), which thank to the financial support of the “Open Society Institute” (Soros Foundation) has the English version.

Resource http://www.owl.ru/english/ is unique because it is the first Russian women’s informational resource and exists in Internet since six years and is archiving the maximum amount of information about activities of women’s movement in Russia and now it is the only channel to the international women’s community – weekly renewal of the English version!

Everyday arriving news about Russian women’s movement, information about Russian women’s non-government organizations, about programs supporting them, social-educational magazine “Woman Plus…”, publications on women’s issues and much more information – announcements of all those information you can find in English on the portal “Woman and Society”! We invite you to send to the editors (ed@owl.ru) your news and announcements – it will be translated into Russian. Let us cooperate in establishing of an informational channel in order of visualization and involvement of the Russian women’s movement into international women’s movement. You can also subscribe weekly digests of portal’s sections. You are welcome!
